I get asked "Why photography?" or "How did you get into photography?" quite often. I usually have to think about my answer, because there is not just one reason. I began taking pictures of my friends in high school. It wasn't until I began working on my degree in photography that I learned my "simple" friend photos were referred to at narrative, editorial, and lifestyle photography.
Photography gives me freedom. It provides me with a different way of looking at the world around me.
Family Portraits - It is a joy to help welcome a new member to a family. It is special and the elation on the parent's faces is priceless and warms the heart. Walking through that first year with monthly portraits or even celebrating each additional year of life are always treasured moments. Counting the generations as the family grows even bigger is a blessing.
Engagements and Wedding Photography - I am a romantic, I always have been. In my quiet time, I write books. Fantasy, paranormal and historic romances to be precise. I can not help but add romance into all of them somewhere. When it comes to photography, it is a pure blessing and honor to be a part of someone else's fairytale beginning. The love that two people share radiates a room and fills it with an overflowing warmth of joy, hope, and happiness.
I love telling the story of a couple's journey. Whether it is the beginning or a family welcoming more into their lives, celebrating the milestone of another year together, there is beauty in it. A beauty that transcends the lens and shows to all who see. And down the road, when the couple is older they can look back at the years that have gone by and smile, remembering the moment in time that was captured and frozen within a picture.
How about a little Throwback Thursday?
Not only was this original picture taken in 1979, but the retouch I did on it, was also in the beginning of my photographic business adventure when I was still attempting to decide on a name. The image was old and at some point in its life had gotten wet. I managed to remove the marks and bring it back to life.
This wedding party put a little cowboy/cowgirl flare in their country wedding. Cowgirl boots and a wedding dress added a piece of home and personality to the party's attire.
